The TBS Experience

Thomas Bruce Studio exemplifies fine portraiture.

Whether you’re photographed in the studio or in an environmental location such as the beach, a park or your own home, you are participating in an experience that will create a work of art you and your family will treasure for years to come.

Studio sessions are booked with plenty of time allowed to pay attention to details. This is not “fast-food” photography; appointment times do not overlap, and every effort is made for your comfort and convenience. Relax and enjoy ”the Experience”.

Portraits created on location outside the studio introduce an exciting element to your session. While client schedules are certainly a consideration, the time of day and lighting conditions are most important to produce the highest quality images. The surrounding environment is incorporated to create your fine art portrait. Clothing harmony is a very important element in fine portraiture.

A design consultation is required before every portrait session. Attention to detail is what makes a difference. Thank you for your consideration; we look forward to working with you.

And we appreciate you choosing us to be your portrait studio.

TBS History

Thomas Bruce Studio has been a trusted name in Classical-style Fine Portraiture for over 50 years.

Founders Thomas Burgin and Bruce Evensen opened the studio in 1973 in St. Petersburg, FL specializing in elegant portraits and wedding photography. Five years later, as the business began to grow, so did Tom’s family, so he moved on.

Bruce carried on with the name to become one of the most respected photographers in Florida, as well as earning the highest honors granted by the Professional Photographers of America, that of Master Photographer & Photographic Craftsman.

Thomas Burgin, Bruce Evensen & Carol Walker reunited at the Florida Professional Photographers convention in 2014.

Affectionately nicknamed “Papa Bruce” among his peers, Bruce’s mastery of classical portrait lighting led him to teaching on state, national and international platforms.

In 1996, Carol took her first class with Bruce and they quickly became good friends. Years later, when he began thinking of retirement, her relationship with her long-time friend and mentor took a turn when he asked her to take over as the new owner.

When Carol took over ownership of the studio in January 2009 she added a fresh, new Contemporary approach, bringing a unique blend of old school and new school with her own 24 years of experience as a professional photographer.
